In India, this type of cloth is commonly called the pagri.

The pagri is worn as a symbol of respect and honor. There are four kinds of religions in India and these include the Muslim, Hindu, christen and Sikh. All religious people in this area wear the pagri. The style of wearing it may change from religion to religion but the base is always the same. The root of this head-wear came from Rajasthan. The turbans also symbolize dedication, commitment and faith. During the ancient biblical times, the head wear was worn to symbolize self respect, dignity and authority, just like in the Arab and Indian world. It was also worn to symbolize royalty and was used to replace the crown. In some areas of monarchy, it still serves so well in the absence of a crown though the draping style could differ.

The market for this head-wear has been increasing tremendously. Today, there are various designs of the same available for individuals to choose from. The demand has influenced the market in a big way thus has affected the purchasing power of people. It is not popular only in designated regions but has become huge almost in the entire globe.

In the past, the turbans were specifically worn by males. However, times have changed and these cloths can now be worn by females. This has been facilitated due to their growth in demand. These are usually made from unique and quality materials and can be customized for different events such as parties and wedding occasions. Their prices also vary from place to place and may also depend on the materials used.

The variation in size of people wearing them has facilitated the manufacture of different turbans with varying range of sizes to fit every individual. There are small sizes that are designed for children. There are also those which are meant for the middle aged and adults.

There are numerous advantages that come with wearing the turban. One of the major merits associated with this head-wear is that it protects people from the scorching heat of the sun. The turbans can also be used in practical occasions. For instance, people who travel in desert use them as pillows, towels or blankets.

It is important to know that turban wrapping is symbolic in every community. The tying process itself is a great art. People who are used to tying it could take few minutes to do so. However, it could be quite a process for those who are still new in the process.
